2021-22 G-MAC Academic All-Conference Team
Every year since joining the G-MAC in 2017, Hillsdale College student-athletes have continued to raise the bar on academic achievement.
The 2021-22 school year was no exception, as 186 Hillsdale College student-athletes earned Academic All-G-MAC honors for the school year, the conference announced on Thursday. That number surpasses the previous record of 181 set during the 2020-21 school year and sets another new standard for academic achievement among athletes at Hillsdale College. All told, athletes from every sports team on campus and representing 23 of Hillsdale's 35 majors earned the distinction, which requires a student athlete to have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and be an active member of an athletic team.
Hillsdale's 186 honorees is an increase of 5 from 2020-21 and an increase of 21 from the 165 Chargers that earned recognition in 2019-20, part of a long trend of growing numbers of academic success. Out of those 186, eight athletes who earned the distinction are pursuing double majors, also an increase from the seven in 2020-21.
Just under half (49.6%) of Hillsdale's 375 student-athletes earned Academic All-Conference distinction in 2021-22. The Charger football team led the way in terms of raw numbers with 57 Academic All-Conference honorees, while men's tennis (87.5%) and women's cross country (81.8%) were tops in percentage of their roster receiving the distinction. Men's basketball (80%), women's basketball (76.5%) and women's volleyball (68.4%) also posted high percentages of athletes receiving recognition.
All told, 13 of Hillsdale's 14 athletic teams had 40% or more of their roster earn Academic All-Conference honors, and 11 of the 14 programs had at least half of their roster earn a 3.3 or better GPA in 2021-22.
Across the G-MAC, a record 2,376 athletes received Academic All-Conference recognition in 2021-22. 120 student-athletes in the G-MAC recorded a 4.0 through the 2022 spring semester, and another 302 had a 3.9 or better.
