Chargers win nine events, sweep duals over Malone; Wooster

The Hillsdale College women's swimming team won nine of 13 contested events to defeat host Malone and Wooster in a double-dual on Saturday, running their dual-meet record on the season to 7-1 overall.

The Chargers topped the Pioneers 138-46 and ended NCAA DIII Wooster's dual meet winning streak of 33 dating back to the 2019-20 season with a 121-106 victory.

Freshman Matilyn Wilhelmsen led Hillsdale with a dominant showing in the distance races, placing first in both the 1,000 yard freestyle in 10:53.91, and in the 500 freestyle in 5:14.83. Jamie Parsons also took third in the 1,000 freestyle behind Wilhelmsen for Hillsdale in 11:41.23 to help the Chargers pick up big points in those events.

Hillsdale's other freshmen also had a strong day. Ella Malone and Ella Schafer teamed with Lucia Ruchti and Joanna Burnham to win the 400 medley relay in 4:06.99, and Schafer also won the 100 freestyle in 54.59, ahead of teammate Alyson Early who took third in 57.94.

Malone, meanwhile, placed in the top three in two more events, finishing second in the 200 back (2:19.07) behind victorious teammate Irene Del Castro, who won in 2:18.42, and third in the 50 freestyle in 26.63, behind teammate Megan Clifford, who claimed the event title in 24.71.

That was one of two event titles for Clifford, who continued an undefeated streak this season in the 200 butterfly with a victory in 2:06.87. Teammate Inez McNichols placed third in the race in 2:18.55.

Lauren Kamp won the 200 backstroke for the Chargers in 2:32.68, and Isabel Ondracek placed first in the 200 freestyle in 2:02.35, just ahead of Ruchti in second in 2:03.08.

Elise Mason placed second in the 400 Individual Medley as well for Hillsdale in 4:48.23, and Burnham took third in 4:52.93 as well.

The Chargers are in action again on Friday as part of a busy November, traveling to NCAA Division I Bowling Green for an exciting dual meet against the Falcons beginning at 6:30 p.m.
