In the first of two meets in 48 hours this weekend, the Hillsdale College women's swim team dominated a double-dual with host Albion and Davenport on Friday night, winning nine of the 11 events to roll to a 169-63 victory over the host Britons and a 135-69 victory over the Panthers.
Three Hillsdale swimmers each won three events, led by freshman
Sasha Babenko, who not only captured the victory in the 100 backstroke but did so in 59.24, the 10th fastest time in the event in Chargers program history. Babenko also won the 50 freestyle for the Chargers in 25.30 and was the leadoff leg on the 400 free relay, joined by
Ella Malone,
Avery May and Ella Shafer, that took first in 3:41.23.
Two other members of that 400 free relay also won multiple individual events for the Chargers along with Babenko. Shafer, a sophomore, took home first in both the 100 freestyle in 54.72 and the 200 freestyle in 1:57.47 along with the relay win, while freshman
Avery May won both the 1,000 freestyle (10:55.23) and the 200 individual medley (2:14.54).
The fourth member of the winning relay, Malone, also brought home an individual crown, winning the 100 butterfly in 59.78, and swam on a runner-up 400 medley relay with freshman
Kate Potwardowski, junior
Inez McNichols and freshman
Rylee Harris, finishing in 4:08.65.
Potwardowski also won an individual event for the Chargers, taking first in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.22) just ahead of teammate
Lauren Kamp (1:11.15) in second, while Harris had a pair of runner-up finishes in the 200 freestyle (2:02.02) and the 500 freestyle (5:35.56) and McNichols took third in the 200 IM (2:19.03) as well.

Aine Maloney took third in the 100 butterfly (1:02.09), sophomore
Yvonne Botha took third in the 100 backstroke (1:03.96) and junior Irene Del Castro took third in the 500 freestyle (5:39.85) as well for the Chargers.
Hillsdale competes again today, Saturday, at 1 p.m. in the Jack McAvoy Natatorium for its only home event of the 2025-26 season, a double-dual against Aquinas and Indiana Wesleyan. The event also doubles as Senior Day for the program's lone graduating senior this season,
Rotem Andegeko.
