Box Score The Hillsdale College men's tennis team dropped a match to a tough opponent on Saturday, falling 6-1 at home to a talented Davenport squad.
The Chargers got a big win at No. 1 doubles, as Hillsdale's pairing of
Henry Hammond and
Ellis Klanduch rolled past the ITA Midwest Regional runner-up squad of Davenport's Daniel Calver and Jan Stolin in a stunning 6-2 upset, but the Panthers were able to win at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take the point.
In singles play, Davenport was in control, taking five of the six matches. Freshman
Eddie Bergelin led Hillsdale with a big win at No. 5 singles, taking a 6-3 ,6-4 victory over Davenport's Carlos Henriquez in an impressive performance. Fellow freshman
Rintaro Goda also put up a good fight for the Chargers at No. 6 singles, pushing Davenport's Rudiger Dusselberg to a third-set super-tiebreak before falling in a hard-fought 3-6, 6-1, 3-10 defeat.
Hillsdale is now 1-3 on the season and faces a short turnaround against a tough opponent tomorrow, Sunday, at home against a Ferris State squad that's always one of the top in the Midwest Region. Play against the Bulldogs begins at 3 p.m.
