The Hillsdale College women's track and field team is hitting the stretch run of the season with momentum, after another big weekend of results at the GVSU Big Meet on Friday and the Tiffin Robinson Family Open on Saturday.

Against one of the best fields in the indoor track season at GVSU on Friday, the Chargers showed out with eight total NCAA DII provisional marks, including four new and improved finishes.

Senior Reese Dragovich was a part of two of those new provisional marks, placing 10th in a loaded 800m run field full of national contenders in a new season best of 2:10.20, good enough to move her up to 18th nationally in Division II. Dragovich also teamed with Francesca Federici, Zoe Burke and Josee Behling to place fourth in the 4x400m relay in an improved time of 3:48.23 that moves the Chargers relay squad up to 26th nationally as well.

In the mile, freshman Evyn Humphrey put herself in the national meet conversation with a strong race, placing 11th against an elite field in a time of 4:49.31, a provisional mark and the 19th fastest time in NCAA DII so far this season.

Meanwhile, Lucy Minning continues to excel in the sprints, as the junior took eighth in the 60m dash after running a 7.62 in prelims, improving her provisional qualifying mark in that event. Minning also placed fifth in the 200m dash in a provisional qualifying time of 24.60 that wasn't an improvement on her previous season best.

Sophomore Eleanor Clark ran a personal best time of 18:25.25 in the 5K and Sarah Chappelle took 16th in the 60m hurdles in a time of 9.08 as well for the Chargers on the track.

In the field, Tara Townsend placed fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.85 meters to lead three Chargers placers, with Katie Clifford and Kaylee Jackson each clearing 3.70 meters and placing seventh and eighth respectively.

Senior Katie Sayles had a strong day in the women's weight throw, taking seventh with a throw of 18.39 meters and also setting a new personal best in the shot put with a throw of 13.66 meters. Olivia Newsome took ninth in the weight throw as well with a mark of 17.38 meters.

The Chargers also had a strong day on Saturday at the Robinson Family Open. Hillsdale won three events at the meet hosted by Tiffin, led by Townsend, who competed for the second straight day and took the pole vault title with a top clearance of 3.80 meters.

Gianna Lodice won the long jump as well for Hillsdale with a new personal best of 5.20 meters, just beating out teammate Katie Kennedy, who took second by a centimeter with a jump of 5.19 meters, and freshman Evelyn Overlease won the 400m dash in 1:01.19 and led three Chargers placers, with Lucia Wilson taking seventh in 1:05.08, and Aubrie Wilson placing eighth with a new personal best of 1:05.79.

Hillsdale also placed three in the high jump, with Reagan Dahlquist taking second with a clearance of 1.60 meters, Aubrie Wilson adding a second personal best on the day by clearing 1.55 meters to take fourth, and Elaine Kutas placing seventh with a clearance of 1.45 meters.

On the track, Lucy Minning followed up her Big Meet performance by placing fourth in the 60m dash at Tiffin, in 7.74, and Sarah Chappelle took runner-up honors in the 60m hurdles in 9.11.

Hillsdale placed two in the triple jump, with Grace Chen taking third in 10.58 meters, and Kennedy placing fifth with a mark of 10.39 meters.

Hillsdale now turns its focus to the G-MAC Championships hosted by Ashland on Feb. 28 and March 1. First, the Chargers will play host to one final tune-up meet at home on Feb. 21 to prepare for championship season to follow.
