Kuzma Track Athlete of the Year; Roessner Freshman of the Year as G-MAC Indoor Awards announced

2025-26 G-MAC Indoor Track and Field Awards

The 2025-26 campaign was a banner indoor season for the Hillsdale College women's track and field team, which closed out a campaign that included a runner-up finish in the G-MAC with a bevy of awards on Wednesday.

Hillsdale sophomore Allison Kuzma was named G-MAC Track Athlete of the Year, Anna Roessner was named Freshman of the Year, and the Chargers had six total athletes earn G-MAC first or second team All-Conference honors, the conference office announced.

Kuzma had a special indoor campaign in 2025-26 to finish as the top track athlete in the G-MAC, building off successful campaigns both as a freshman and in cross country in the fall. She repeated as the G-MAC indoor 5K champion and also won the 3,000m run title at the 2026 G-MAC Indoor Championships. That was a prelude to her performance at the NCAA DII Indoor Championships on March 13, 2026, where Kuzma stunned the field with a dominant performance in the women's 5,000m run to capture her first national title, beating second place in the race by 18 seconds and shattering Hillsdale's school record in the event by over 15 seconds with a time of 15:58.57.

The sophomore's winning performance gives Kuzma the 11th fastest 5,000m time in NCAA DII history, and comes on the heels of an All-American performance in cross country this past fall as well. For her career so far, Kuzma has back-to-back G-MAC titles in the indoor 5,000m run, the 2025 G-MAC cross country title, the 2026 G-MAC indoor 3,000m run title, and the 2025 G-MAC Outdoor 10,000m run title. Kuzma will look to build on her success this winter in the spring outdoor campaign, where she should be a national contender to win both the 10,000m and 5,000m run titles at the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships in May.

Roessner, meanwhile, caps a stunning first collegiate season with Freshman of the Year honors. The Fort Recovery, Ohio native broke the G-MAC record in the 60m run in her first collegiate meet with a Hillsdale record time of 7.36, then won the G-MAC title in the event at the G-MAC Indoor Championships and earned second-team All-American honors at the NCAA DII Indoor Championships as well. Along with holding the top time in program history in the 60m dash, she also has the second-fastest time in Hillsdale history in the indoor 200m dash in 24.16. Roessner will look to continue to rewrite the Hillsdale and G-MAC record books in the sprints in the outdoor season.

Both Kuzma and Roessner earned first team All-G-MAC honors, and were joined on the first team by Chargers Tara Townsend and Baelyn Zitzmann, who successfully defended G-MAC crowns at the Indoor Championships in February. Townsend, a senior, won her second straight indoor pole vault title in a jump-off, and went on to finish seventh in the nation in the event at the NCAA DII Indoor Championships to earn her second All-American honor. Townsend concludes her Hillsdale indoor career as the second-best performer all-time in the pole vault, with a best clearance of 4.20 meters.

Zitzmann, a sophomore, repeated as champion in the pentathlon at the G-MAC Indoor Championships, with a new personal best of 3,637 points that rewrote her own Chargers record in the event, and was just short of the G-MAC record.

Hillsdale had two more athletes earn second team All-G-MAC honors. Amelia Lutz, Hillsdale's all-time record holder in the shot put with a top throw of 16.42 meters, earned runner-up honors at the G-MAC Indoor Championships and placed fourth in the nation at the NCAA DII Indoor Championships to earn All-American honors. She's joined on the list by junior Eleanor Clark, who took runner-up behind Kuzma in both the 3,000m run and 5,000m run at the G-MAC Indoor Championships with personal bests in both events.
