Box Score A young Hillsdale College men's tennis team put up another good fight at home on Sunday, but it wasn't enough to get a result off a strong Ferris State squad in a 5-2 defeat.
Hillsdale fell behind early with a loss of the doubles point despite some solid matches, especially at No. 2 doubles as the squad of
Sam Plys and
Eddie Bergelin hung tough with the Bulldogs in a competitive 7-5 defeat.
The Chargers also pulled off a couple of notable victories in singles play, as freshman
Alex Cordero Lopez took a three-set victory over Ferris State's Jose Perez at No. 3 singles, winning 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 with a strong performance in the third set.Â
Fellow freshman
Sam Plys also rolled to a dominant victory for the Chargers at No. 6 singles, taking down Ferris' Milo Leuenberger 6-2, 6-1.
While the Chargers lost at the other four flights, many of the matches were close.
Ellis Klanduch and
Rintaro Goda both had a 7-5 set at No. 1 and No. 5 singles, respectively, and freshman
Ryan Papazov was close throughout the match in a 6-4, 6-4 loss at No. 2 singles.
Hillsdale is 1-4 now after a start against a tough schedule, and will hit the road next week, with matches at Purdue Northwest on Saturday and at Goshen on Sunday, looking to continue to build momentum and harness more of their potential.
