The Hillsdale College men's track and field team got a strong finish from senior
Richie Johnston to highlight the final day of the squad's performance at the 2025 G-MAC Indoor Championships on Saturday hosted by Ashland.
Johnston hung with eventual 3,000m run champion Talel Khalfi of Tiffin for the first nine laps of the race and, when Khalfi made his move, held off a tough challenge from the rest of the field to earn runner-up honors in the race in 8:21.16.Â
The senior's strong finish meant solid points for the Chargers, who finished seventh in the team race for the meet with 32 across two days.
Hillsdale also got a scoring finish from
Ben Haas in the shot put, as the G-MAC Weight Throw champion placed seventh with a mark of 15.99 meters.
Along with their two placers,
Zealand Tarrant took 11th in the heptathlon with a personal best score of 4,277, and winning the final of the seven events, the 1,000, in 2:43.49.
Daniel Johnson ran a personal best in the mile, 4:23.53, to finish 16th, just ahead of teammate
Zach Self who placed 18th in 4:24.29.
Mark Masaka also placed 16th in the 800m run (1:55.83),
Christian Hinrichs took 11th (12.91 meters) in the triple jump and
Alfonso Garcia placed 12th (12.78 meters) in the triple jump as well.
The only indoor meet remaining on the schedule for the Chargers is the 2025 NCAA DII Indoor Championships, scheduled for March 14 and 15 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Hillsdale has two athletes slated to make the field in Haas, who will compete in both the weight throw and shot put, and
Cass Dobrowolski, who will compete in the high jump.
