Box Score The Hillsdale College men's tennis team kicked off a Spring Break week of tennis down south on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina with a dominant victory over West Liberty as part of the PTR Spring Tennis Fest on Tuesday.
The Chargers won all nine matches on the court without dropping a set and won four of them without dropping a game in an impressive victory over the Hilltoppers.
Hillsdale swept all three doubles flights to win the doubles point, including a 6-1 victory at No. 1 double by
Ellis Klanduch and
Henry Hammond, a 6-2 victory by
Sam Plys and
Eddie Bergelin at No. 2 doubles, and a perfect 6-0 victory by
Ryan Papazov and
Rintaro Goda at No. 3 doubles.
The Chargers carried that momentum through six straight set victories in singles play. Papazov at No. 2 singles, Hammond at No. 4 singles, and Goda at No. 6 singles all swept their West Liberty opponents without dropping a single game, while
Sam Plys took a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles, and
Ellis Klanduch won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Freshman
Eddie Bergelin had the toughest match at No. 3 singles but still handled his West Liberty opponent with poise, taking a 6-4, 6-2 victory to complete the day.
Hillsdale is now 5-5 overall and continues play on Hilton Head Island on Thursday with a match against Millersville. The Chargers will start conference play when they return up north next week, facing off against Kentucky Wesleyan and Thomas More on March 22 and 23.
