Chargers' Katie Sayles places 15th in the weight throw at 2025 NCAA DII Indoor Championships

Hillsdale College senior Katie Sayles finished an impressive career in the weight throw for the Chargers on Friday afternoon, competing in the 2025 NCAA DII Indoor Championships.

Sayles, making her fourth appearance at the indoor nationals, placed 15th against a tough field in her signature event. Her first throw of the day, a mark of 18.50 meters, was her best attempt, and came close to getting her to the finals, just half a meter short of the ninth-place mark in prelims.

The senior from Napoleon, Michigan will graduate this spring as the program's record-holder in the weight throw and one of the discipline's top female competitors at Hillsdale. First, however, she'll compete in the outdoor season, looking to make her first 2025 NCAA DII Outdoor Championship contesting the shot put and hammer throw.

A few Charger women will begin the outdoor season this coming weekend, traveling to meets at Miami (OH) and Appalachian State, before the squad sends a group to the Texas Relays in Austin on March 26.
