Box Score The Hillsdale College men's tennis team got G-MAC play off to a strong start on Saturday, dispatching host Kentucky Wesleyan for the Chargers' third-straight victory.
Hillsdale swept all three doubles matches, with the No. 2 doubles team of
Sam Plys and
Eddie Bergelin and the No. 3 doubles team of
Ryan Papazov and
Rintaro Goda each winning 6-0 without dropping a game. The Chargers' No. 1 doubles team of
Henry Hammond and
Ellis Klanduch completed the sweep with a 6-3 victory as well.
The Panthers put up more of a fight in singles play, especially at the No. 1 and 2 spots. Klanduch won a tricky match at No. 1 singles, taking a second-set tiebreak 8-6 to win 6-1, 7-6. Down the lineup, the Chargers rolled, as
Alex Cordero Lopez won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles,
Henry Hammond also took a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles,
Eddie Bergelin won a 6-2, 6-2 match at No. 5 singles, and
Sam Plys won at No. 6 singles without dropping a game, 6-0, 6-0.
Hillsdale is now 7-5 overall, 1-0 in G-MAC play and completes its Kentucky trip tomorrow, Sunday, with a 4 p.m. match against Thomas More.
