Box Score The Hillsdale College men's tennis team wrapped up its Kentucky trip this weekend by taking care of business in a 4-0 victory over host Thomas More on Sunday, winning all six completed matches.
The Chargers got off to a great start by winning all three doubles matches to take the doubles point. Hillsdale's sophomore duo of
Ellis Klanduch and
Henry Hammond set the tone at No. 1 doubles with a 6-3 victory, while
Sam Plys and
Eddie Bergelin gutted out a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles and
Ryan Papazov and
Rintaro Goda took a 6-4 victory at No. 3 doubles.
The showing in doubles meant that Hillsdale needed just three singles wins to clinch the match, and the Chargers did just that in short order.
Ellis Klanduch won a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles over Thomas More's Raphael Delente, while
Ryan Papazov took an efficient 6-0, 6-4 victory over the Saints' Camille Le Guellec.
Alex Cordero Lopez closed out the win at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Thomas More's Magnus Hauska.
While the match was played to clinch, Hillsdale was ahead or tied at each of the other three singles flights in progress and in good position regardless.
The Chargers are now 8-5 with the win, 2-0 in G-MAC play, and in solid form heading into a critical showdown at home next week against visiting Walsh on Sunday. The Chargers and Cavaliers have been close in the standings to each other time and again in the last half-decade, and the match could have real implications in the race for G-MAC Tournament seeding down the road.
