The Hillsdale College women's track and field team had a big showing in Texas this past weekend, competing in three meets with a small group of its top performers in distance races and jumps.

From that busy week came a big haul for the Chargers, who nabbed three new NCAA DII Provisional qualifying marks on the trip.

Leading the way was a pair of freshmen. Evyn Humphrey, fresh off racing in the NCAA DII Indoor National Meet in Indianapolis just two weeks ago, took first in her heat and seventh overall in the 1,500m run at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Thursday in Austin, with a NCAA DII provisional qualifying time of 4:28.94. She bettered that mark the next day with a runner-up finish at the Texas State Bobcat Invite in San Marcos, Texas, finishing in 4:26.21 to record the 10th-fastest time in the nation in the 1,500 to dae.

Along with Humphrey's provisional mark, freshman Allison Kuzma had a big race for the Chargers as well in the 5K at the Texas Relays on Thursday, placing 11th in a meet full of Division I competition in a provisional qualifying time of 16:40.09, currently the seventh-fastest time in NCAA DII.

Another recent indoor national meet competitor, Tara Townsend, gave Hillsdale its third provisional mark in the pole vault at the Bobcat Invite on Friday, placing third in the B section with a clearance of 3.90 meters, currently the 10th best mark in NCAA DII.

Along with the three provisionals, Hillsdale got new personal records from Anna Roberts in the 3,000m steeplechase (11:29.69) on Thursday at the Texas Relays, and in the 1,500m run (4:56.38) on Friday at the Bobcat Invite. Roberts' younger sister, Megan, also set a new personal best in the 1,500m run at the Bobcat Invite (4:53.39) and teammate Savannah Fraley set a new personal best in the 5K at the Bobcat Invite in 17:43.90.

Hillsdale also had two athletes competing in the Trinity Invitational in San Antonio, Texas on Frida, with Baelyn Zitzmann placing 10th in the long jump (5.08 meters) and Katie Clifford placing second in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.78 meters.

The Chargers also sent several athletes to the Tiffelberg Invitational on Saturday in Ohio, with many competitiors setting new personal bests. Hillsdale swept the podium in the 400m run, with Nicole Marshall winning in a personal best time of 58.85, Evelyn Overlease taking second in 59.90 and Lucia Wilson placing third with a new personal best in 59.96, and Hillsdale also went 2-3-4 in the 1,500m run with all three athletes setting new personal records, led by Anna Stirton's runner-up finish in 4:59.61. Eleanor Clark took third in 5:00.14 and Whitney Wilkinson fourth in 5:00.48 as well for the Chargers.
 
In the sprints, Lucy Minning was runner-up in both the 100 dash with a new personal best of 12.19, and in the 200 with a time of 24.57. Teammate Anna Lamoreaux took fourth in both the 100 with a new personal best of 12.75 and in the 200 with a personal best time of 25.65 as well.

Aubrie Wilson won the 800m run for the Chargers in 2:32.64, with Ameera Wilson placing third in 2:33.56, while Nola Hipkins won the 400m hurdles in 1:07.03 ahead of teammate Gianna Lodice who took runner-up in 1:09.21. Hipkins also placed third in the 100 hurdles in 15.70.

Hillsdale will split its squad once again next week, taking a group of sprinters down to North Carolina to compete in the VertKlasse Meeting at High Point University. The majority of the squad will compete in the Chargers' first outdoor home meet of the season on Saturday at Hayden Park, beginning at 11 a.m.
