Chargers Reuter, Woodhams named to All-G-MAC First Team; Meyer repeats as Elite 26 winner

Two senior Hillsdale College men's basketball players will finish their careers with All-Conference recognition, while a junior guard repeated as a major award winner, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference announced on Thursday afternoon.

Joe Reuter and Charles Woodhams both were named first-team All-G-MAC honorees for the 2024-25 season as the G-MAC handed out its men's basketball awards. The honor comes as Hillsdale is preparing to host the G-MAC Tournament semifinals and finals this weekend.

Reuter's award is his second-straight first-team honor, his third straight All-G-MAC honor, and his fourth recognition from the conference in four years after being named the G-MAC Freshman of the Year in 2021-22. The senior has been a well-rounded force for the Chargers this season, helping Hillsdale win 20 games and finish in the top three in the G-MAC for the eighth consecutive campaign.

Reuter has averaged 11.3 points per game and finished in the top 10 in the conference in rebounds per game (7.2), assists per game (2.9), blocked shots per game (0.8), as well as leading the G-MAC in steals per game with 1.8. A strong, physical 6-foot-5 presence equally capable of guarding posts in the paint as he is checking wings on the perimeter, he also is one of the conference's top on-ball defenders helping to lead the G-MAC's top scoring defense at 65.7 points per game conceded.

A four-year contributor and three-year starter for the Chargers, Reuter has left an outsized mark on the storied Hillsdale program. His 1,354 career points rank 22nd all-time in program history, along with 662 rebounds and 270 assists in 118 games played. He'll be remembered for his excellent defense, as his 138 career steals ranks in the top 10 all-time in Hillsdale College history, and his 53 steals in 2024-25 are also in the top 10 all-time for a single season at Hillsdale.

Woodhams, meanwhile, is receiving his first-ever All-Conference honor after a second-straight excellent season as the team's starting shooting guard. An imposing physical presence on the perimeter at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, the senior from Otsego, Michigan is a true three-level scorer who led the Chargers in scoring this season with 13.7 points per game on 49.1% shooting from the floor and 40.5% shooting from 3-point range, while also adding 5.8 rebounds. Woodhams has finished with double-figures in 26 of Hillsdale's 29 games this season, with three 20-plus point performances and two double-doubles. That includes a career-high 26 points on .727 shooting from the floor and 57.1% from 3-point range in a 83-79 win at Ashland on Jan. 2. Like Reuter, he also plays an important role defensively, often checking the opponent's best perimeter player.

The senior has seen his role at Hillsdale grow over time, from a spot contributor as a redshirt freshman, to a trusted sixth man as a sophomore, to a key offensive leader and starter as a junior and senior. As the Chargers look to contend for a G-MAC Tournament title and the automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament that comes with it, Woodhams has 980 points for his career and is on the precipice of a milestone himself.

Along with Hillsdale's two All-Conference players, junior guard Jacob Meyer also received the G-MAC's Elite 26 award for the second straight season. One of four major honors handed out every season by the conference in men's basketball and modeled after the NCAA's Elite 90 Award, the Elite 26 award goes to the athlete participating in a G-MAC Championship with the highest cumulative GPA among all players involved in the championship.

A junior at Hillsdale College and a financial management major, Meyer boasts an impressive 3.97 cumulative GPA made even more outstanding by the academic rigor of the institution and the rarity of a 3.9 or above GPA for all Hillsdale College students, athletes and non-athletes alike.  Meyer is one of two athletes in program history to win the Elite 26 award and the only one to win the award multiple times.

Hillsdale plays on Friday at home in the G-MAC Semifinal round against Malone at 7:30 p.m. A victory would put the Chargers in the G-MAC Championship game on Saturday at 3 p.m. and give Hillsdale a chance to capture its first conference tournament title since 1995.
