The Hillsdale College Shotgun Team traveled to the ACUI/SCTP Spring Central Midwest Conference Championship at the World Shooting and Recreation Complex in Sparta, IL from February 28
th through March 2
nd. The Chargers competed against over 220 athletes from 17 schools in six disciplines: American Trap, Trap Doubles, American Skeet, Skeet Doubles, Sporting Clays, and Super Sporting.

Hillsdale began Friday with 50 of each Doubles Skeet and Trap Doubles. Fighting through intense winds, they took the team silver in each event behind 2024 D1 National Champions Lindenwood University. The squad of
Kyle Fleck,
Davis Hay,
Madeline Corbin,
Luke Johnson, and
Joshua Corbin broke 243/250 doubles skeet targets. Fleck (50/50) and
Madeline Corbin (49/50) each took 1
st place individually for their performances. Hay,
Lucci Kern,
Jonathan Calabrese,
Jordan Sapp, and
Leif Andersen composed the Chargers' scorers in Trap Doubles, hitting 230/250 targets. Kern's 48/50 was the highest of any female competitor at the match.

The winds did not let up on Saturday and the temperatures dropped to add further difficulty. The Chargers began with American Skeet and scored 489/500 to take third place team behind Lindenwood and just two targets short of William Penn University.
Madeline Corbin took 3
rd place woman with 97/100. Also contributing were
Joshua Corbin (99), Hay (98), Sapp (98), and
Gavin Drill (97).

Breaking 408 out of a possible 500 targets, the Chargers took 2
nd place team in Sporting Clays. Freshman
Nathaniel Meloro's 84/100 led the way for the Chargers. Senior
Jessica Strasser's 81/100 earned her the silver medal in the women's category. Rounding out the team score were Sapp (82), Hay (81), and Andersen (80).

The final day of competition was Super Sporting and American Trap. The Chargers were just a couple targets shy of placing in Trap (483/500) with scores from
Joshua Corbin (98),
Madeline Corbin (97), Kern (96), Calabrese (96), and Hay (96).

Hillsdale took 3
rd place team in Super Sporting after hitting 199/250 targets. Leading the squad was Sapp's score of 43/50.
Ava Downs' 40/50 was the next highest score with
Joshua Corbin and Fleck each breaking 39 and Meloro hitting 38.

When all scores were totaled, the Chargers took 2
nd place Team High Overall behind Lindenwood and ahead of William Penn. They finished with 2052/2250 targets broken.
Jessica Strasser (392/450) earned 3
rd place women's high overall.

The Chargers will train the next two weeks until flying to San Antonio, TX for the ACUI/SCTP Collegiate Clay Target Championship from March 17-22. The team looks forward to defending their Division II High Overall Team National Championship.
