The Hillsdale College women's track and field team showed its strength at the Calvin Knight Invite on Saturday, winning seven events and seeing three of its athletes make big moves in the national conversation with new NCAA DII provisional qualifying marks.
The biggest leap up the national standings came from senior pole vaulter
Kaylee Jackson, who won the pole vault competition with a new personal best clearance of 3.95 meters. In grabbing her first provisional mark of the outdoor season, Jackson vaulted all the way up to 12th in the NCAA DII national standings currently. While the mark itself likely won't be enough to give Jackson her first NCAA DII Outdoor Championships trip in May, it's a good sign she can get there with several chances to build on that PR between now and the time the field is selected.
Another veteran who had a strong day was junior
Averi Parker, who led a 1-2-3 Hillsdale finish in the hammer throw with a new provisional mark of 55.95 meters, currently placing her 15th in the nation. The five-time national meet qualifier and 2022 Indoor All-American is hunting for her sixth national meet trip, and her second in the hammer throw, and has put herself in the conversation once again this weekend. Parker also took runner-up honors in the shot put with a mark of 13.70 meters, in both events beating out teammate
Katie Sayles, who was runner-up in the hammer throw with a mark of 51.54 meter and third in the shot put with a mark of 12.89 meters.
Juliet Bernard was third in the hammer throw with a mark of 49.04 meters as well.
On the track, freshman
Evyn Humphrey added a second provisional qualifying mark to her previous effort in the 1,500m run, winning the 800m run on Saturday in 2:10.30 to post the 23rd best time in NCAA DII to date. Humphrey also ranks 16th in the nation in the 1,500m run and will be looking for her first outdoor national meet appearance in May after competing at the 2025 NCAA DII Indoor Championships in March.
Hillsdale had several additional event winners.
Lucy Minning led a big day for the Chargers in the sprints, winning both the 100m dash in a personal best time of 11.87 and the 200m dash in 24.62. Minning led a 1-2-3 finish with five Chargers in the top eight in the 200m dash, as teammate
Anna Lamoreaux took runner-up in 25.97 and
Reese Dragovich placed third in the 200m dash in a personal best time of 26.03. Lamoreaux also finished third in the 400m dash for the Chargers in a new personal best time of 59.68 as well.
In the field,
Grace Chen won the long jump with a new personal best mark of 5.29 meters, ahead of
Katie Kennedy in fourth with a mark of 5.01 meters. Chen also took second in the triple jump with a mark of 11.12 meters, and Kennedy placed fourth in that event as well in 10.56 meters.
Reagan Dahlquist also tied for first in the high jump for Hillsdale with a clearance of 1.59 meters.
Mackenzie Morrison took third in the discus for the Chargers with a throw of 40.52 meters, and freshman
Ella Schafer set two new personal bests, placing third in the javelin with a throw of 24.06 meters and also setting an new PR in the discus with a mark of 39.51 meters.
Hillsdale had four of the top eight finishers in the 1,500m run, with three of the four athletes setting new personal best times.
Savannah Fraley took third in 4:46.87, with teammates
Nicole Marshall placing fourth in 4:48.09 and
Anna Roberts placing fifth in 4:49.64, both new personal bests.
Nola Hipkins finished fourth in the 100m hurdles in 15.83 for Hillsdale, and
Megan Roberts placed fourth in the 800m run in 2:17.21.
The finish at Calvin leads into a big week for Hillsdale, as the Chargers host the revived GINA Relays after a four-year absence at its new outdoor track at Hayden Park. The GINAs have been a centerpiece meet at Hillsdale for decades in the spring, and will make a triumphant return this Thursday and Friday. Leading into the GINAs, Hillsdale also will host its rescheduled Mid-Week Multi meet on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning for decathletes and heptathletes.
