Three-time G-MAC weight throw champion
Ben Haas added a new medal to his trophy case as the Hillsdale College men's track and field team kicked off the 2025 G-MAC Outdoor Championships at Ashland on Wednesday.
Haas, also a four-time All-American and the 2025 NCAA DII Indoor Champion in the weight throw over the past three years, captured the G-MAC Outdoor crown in the hammer throw with a mark of 64.53 meters. All three of Haas' throws on the day would have been good enough to win, as he was more than three meters ahead of his closest competition.
While Wednesday's mark was a title-worthy mark, it's still short of Haas' best this season, a school-record setting and NCAA DII leading throw of 67.21 meters that will make him a legitimate contender to add a second national title to his resume in May. He also wasn't the only strong performance in the hammer throw for the Chargers on Wednesday, as sophomore Dmitry Ermakov scored points in a G-MAC meet for the first time, taking sixth with a personal best throw of 55.79 meters to give Hillsdale three more valuable points.
Hillsdale finished the night with four athletes competing in the 10,000m run.
Caleb Youngstedt led the way, placing 12th in a personal best time of 31:54.39, and
Nathaniel Osborne was close behind in 13th with a personal best time of 31:56.27 as well. Donny McArdle took 14th and just missed his personal best time by less than a tenth of a second with a time of 31:57.88.
Thanks to 13 points from its hammer throwers, the Chargers are currently in fifth place as a team with a much busier day two on tap. Finals will be contested in the high jump, shot put, and long jump on the men's side on Thursday, as well as in the 3,000m steeplechase. Hillsdale also will run in several preliminaries looking to get as many athletes as possible into the finals on Friday.
