Ross Kuhn earns All-American honors as Chargers wrap up 2025 NCAA DII Outdoor Championships

Three Hillsdale College men's track and field athletes were in action on Championship Saturday at the 2025 NCAA DII Outdoor Championships in Pueblo, Colorado as the Chargers closed out the 2025 campaign with another All-American honor.

Junior Ross Kuhn, competing in his first-ever trip to the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships, ran an excellent race in a loaded field in the 1,500m final. With 400 meters to go and the entire field tightly bunched up, Kuhn made a bold move to the front, taking the lead of the race and forcing the action. While Kuhn couldn't hang on to first place, his bold gambit paid off, buying him enough of an advantage to hold on to eighth place down the home stretch and grab All-American honors with a finish in 3:51.54.

It's Kuhn's first All-American honor of his career and a well-deserved one for the junior who shattered a 28-year-old school record in the 1,500m run earlier this month heading into the national meet. Kuhn rode that momentum with two strong races in Colorado and has set himself up well entering his final season next fall.

Hillsdale's Ben Haas, fresh off a national title in the hammer throw on Thursday, competed in the shot put as well for the Chargers. Haas got off to a strong start with a solid opening throw of 17.39 meters, but couldn't improve on that mark in his next two throws and ultimately fell 0.2 meters short of making the final in the event, finishing in 11th place overall.

Last, but not least, Hillsdale senior Cass Dobrowolski finished off a storied career with his third national meet appearance in the high jump. Dobrowolski cleared bars at 2.02 meters and 2.07 meters to give himself a shot at All-American honors, but couldn't get over the bar at 2.12 meters despite three good attempts, finishing in a tie for 13th place overall. Dobrowolski will leave Hillsdale as the school's record-holder in the indoor high jump, and one of the best in Hillsdale's history in the event.

As a team, the Chargers tied for 20th in the nation overall, scoring 11 points, and will bring home Haas' national championship and Kuhn's All-American honor. The Chargers will graduate two team stalwarts in national meet qualifiers Dobrowolski and Richie Johnston but will return both Haas and Kuhn next season to lead what's shaping up to be another strong squad.
