An epic offensive performance on Homecoming helped
Eli Boyce earn weekly conference honors for the first time in his career on Monday.
Boyce was named the G-MAC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon by the Great Midwest Athletic Conference office, becoming the third Charger to win Offensive Player of the Week honors this season.
The junior from Holland, Michigan lit up a Walsh defense that had been playing solidly entering Saturday's contest, accounting for 400 yards of total offense and all six of Hillsdale's touchdowns in the victory. Boyce became the first Charger to score six touchdowns in a game since Kyle Keefer threw six touchdown passes in a win over Mercyhurst on Oct. 9, 1999, with the current Charger quarterback connecting on two scores through the air and adding four more on the ground.
Boyce was 20 of 35 for 267 passing yards through the air, connecting with
Shea Ruddy for touchdown throws of 55 and three yards. He added 133 more yards on the ground to lead Hillsdale in rushing, scoring on touchdown runs of three, one, one and 12 yards in the victory.
The junior became Hillsdale's first quarterback to rush for over 100 yards since Luke Keller broke the mark in a 31-21 win over Walsh in April of 2021, and the first Charger to rush for four or more touchdowns since Harlon Hill finalist Michael Herzog rushed for five scores in a 35-17 win over Ohio Dominican in 2023.
Boyce currently leads the G-MAC in scoring with eight touchdowns and 48 points on the season. He's played a key part in the G-MAC's best offense through six games, as the Chargers lead the conference in points per game (36.7), total offense (433.5) and rushing yards per game (215.7).
Hillsdale will look to stay on a hot pace with a huge home matchup this weekend, as the Chargers host #16 Findlay in a battle of 5-1 squads at 1 p.m. in Frank "Muddy" Waters Stadim.
