Now in his fourth year with the program,
Drake Badger has made himself into one of the most feared pass-rushers off the edge in Hillsdale College football history.
He added another award on Monday afternoon, as the G-MAC recognized him as its Defensive Player of the Week in a release. It's Badger's second weekly conference honor of his career and his first this season.
Badger was rampant in Hillsdale's 29-9 win over Lake Erie, wreaking havoc that helped Hillsdale hold its fourth straight opponent to single digits defensively. The Verona, Wisconsin native was stout against the run, recording a team-leading nine tackles, three for loss, and also put the Storm quarterbacks under siege with two sacks in the victory. Badger's first sack recorded the first points of the game for the Chargers, as he brought down Lake Erie quarterback Hunter Newell in the end zone for one of two Chargers safeties in the contest.
As he continues to perform for Hillsdale, Badger is moving up the all-time lists. His 23 sacks rank seventh all-time in program history, and his 35.5 tackles for loss also put him in seventh. He's got a chance to continue climbing both lists with six games left in the season, starting with a huge homecoming clash with 4-1 Walsh at 2 p.m. this Saturday in Frank "Muddy" Waters Stadium.
