A second-half surge by
Marcelina Gorny has resulted in conference honors.
The senior outside hitter was recognized as the G-MAC North Division volleyball player of the week on Monday afternoon for the first time in her career, after stellar play on the road in important matches for the Chargers.
Gorny excelled as an attacker, averaging 3.63 kills per set on .451 hitting to help the Chargers best Walsh and Malone to sew up the program's ninth-straight G-MAC Tournament berth. In a critical match at Walsh, who entered the contest ahead of the Chargers in the standings, on Friday, Gorny was the difference in a four-set thriller, pounding down a career-high 15 kills on .393 hitting to dispatch the Cavaliers. At Malone on Saturday, Gorny was even more efficient, hitting .522 with 14 kills to help the Chargers to another four-set victory.
The honor is a rewarding one for Gorny with her career winding down. She's been an effective player for the Chargers when healthy but injuries have limited her ability to contribute for much of her career. Now finally healthy in the last few weeks of her career, Gorny is showing exactly what kind of player she can be when she's 100% while helping the Chargers make a late and dramatic push in the G-MAC standings.
Gorny will be honored by the Chargers on senior day on Friday as Hillsdale looks to close out the regular season with two more wins, playing Tiffin on Friday night and rival Findlay on Saturday for their final two matches before the G-MAC Tourney kicks off on Nov. 10.
