The Hillsdale College men's tennis team battled but fell to a strong Ferris State squad on the road on Saturday, taking a 7-0 loss.
The powerhouse Bulldogs, one of the Midwest Region's top teams, won all nine matches on the court against the Chargers, but Hillsdale put up a fight at several spots. In doubles, sophomores
Ryan Papazov and
Sam Plys fell at No. 2 doubles in a tight and hotly contested 7-5 match. Plys also gave Ferris State a good battle at No. 3 singles, winning the first set in a tiebreak over the Bulldogs' Felipe Iser before falling in three sets.
Along with Plys, sophomore
Alex Cordero Lopez also made his opponent work for the win, taking a 7-5 victory in the second set to force a third and deciding set before coming up short in a tiebreak.
Hillsdale is now 3-2 on the season and will be in Grand Rapids tomorrow looking to pull off a victory against another tough regional opponent, as the Chargers play host Davenport at 11 a.m. at MVP Sportsplex.Â
