Hillsdale's Ben Haas named G-MAC Field Athlete of the Week (Feb. 16-23)

As he continues to lead the nation in his signature event, senior Ben Haas brought home another honor for the Hillsdale College men's track and field team on Monday afternoon.

For the fifth time this season, and the 14th time in his career with the Chargers, Haas was recognized by the Great Midwest Athletic Conference as its Field Athlete of the Week.

Haas entered Saturday's Hillsdale Tune-Up meet with more pressure on him than usual, as he'd been overtaken for the top spot in NCAA DII in his signature event, the weight throw, the night before by GVSU's Sebastian Tesch. Haas had the perfect response, throwing a season-best mark of 22.31 meters to leapfrog Tesch's distance of 22.07 meters and reclaim first place in the nation again entering conference championship weekend.

It's the type of performance you'd expect from a champion, and Haas continues to chase a repeat national championship in the weight throw after winning the national title in the event at the 2025 NCAA DII Indoor Championships last season. While Haas leads the nation, he still hasn't equaled or surpassed his title-winning mark of 22.89 meters from 2025, showing that he still has the potential to throw farther, both this weekend at the 2026 G-MAC Indoor Championships in Ashland, and at the 2026 NCAA DII Indoor Championships in March in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
