Playing without two lineup players on Friday, the Hillsdale College men's tennis team did its best to bring the fight to nationally-ranked Findlay, but ultimately couldn't keep pace with the Oilers in a 4-1 home defeat.
The Chargers battled the strong Oilers despite the absences, getting a solid victory from sophomore
Ryan Papazov at No. 3 singles with a 7-6 (3), 6-4 victory over Findlay's Matthis Veniard. Hillsdale's No. 2 doubles team of freshman
Jackson Clements and sophomore Samuel Plys also picked up a strong 6-3 victory in doubles for the Chargers, but it wasn't enough as Findlay got wins at No. 1 and 3 doubles to take the doubles point, and won straight set victories at No. 1, 2 and 4 singles to clinch the win.
Alex Cordero Lopez did push his Findlay opponent to a first-set tiebreak before falling at No. 4 singles for the Chargers, and
Rintaro Goda and
Jackson Clements were both leading at No. 5 and No. 6 singles when their matches were stopped due to the match being clinched by the Oilers.
Hillsdale is now 5-7 overall, 0-2 in G-MAC play and a tough stretch in the Chargers' schedule continues on Saturday with another G-MAC match against a nationally-ranked team. The Chargers play #20 Tiffin at home tomorrow, with a start time scheduled for approximately 2 p.m.
