Three Chargers took place in the heptathlon at the Outdoor Mid-Week Multi meet hosted by the Hillsdale College track and field team, with strong results across the board.
The meet, which was focused exclusively on the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon, gave Hillsdale's three women's heptathletes an option to put an early season mark down, and all three had a a good day, with two posting new personal bests in the heptathlon.
Leading the way was sophomore
Baelyn Zitzmann, who took second overall with a new top score of 4,486. That surpasses Zitzmann's previous best of 4,410 set during last year's G-MAC Outdoor Championships, and makes Zitzmann the fourth highest-scoring heptathlete in program history. Zitzmann recorded three first place finishes in the seven events -- the 100m hurdles (15.08), the high jump (1.63 meters) and the 800m run (2:33.77) on the way to a new high score.
Finishing just behind Zitzmann in third place was freshman
Bristol Whitley, who posted a strong first collegiate mark with a score of 4,168, good for sixth place on Hillsdale's all-time list of heptathletes. Whitley used two runner-up finishes in the seven events to land her score -- taking second in the 200m dash (26.59) and in the 800m run (2:35.29).
Hillsdale's third heptathlete, sophomore
Aubrie Wilson, also had a solid competition, posting a score of 3,656, just off her personal best mark from last season. Wilson used a second-place finish in the high jump (1.60 meters) and a third place finish in the shot put (10.17 meters) to help boost her score.
The Chargers will be in action again this weekend at the Al Owens Invite hosted by Grand Valley State, before returning home for Hillsdale's biggest home meet of the season, the 56th Annual Hillsdale "GINA" Relays over three days from April 16 through 18, with strong competition from across the midwest descending on Hillsdale for the meet.
