Chargers end season in G-MAC Tourney with 4-0 loss to Walsh

The Hillsdale College men's tennis team saw the 2025-26 season draw to a close in the G-MAC Tournament, as the fifth-seeded Chargers fell in the quarterfinal round to Walsh, 4-0, on Thursday in Owensboro, Kentucky.

It was the second time in a week the Chargers were beaten by the Cavaliers, who also took Hillsdale down 4-2 in the regular season finale last Saturday.

Hillsdale hung tough at points in the G-MAC Tourney match, but lost the doubles point despite a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles from sophomore Alex Cordero Lopez and freshman Jackson Clements.

Trailing 1-0, Hillsdale was beaten by Walsh in the first three singles matches, allowing the Cavaliers to clinch and end the match early. Sophomore Sam Plys did push his match at No. 2 singles to three sets, but ultimately lost 5-7, 6-3, 3-6 to Walsh's Nicolas Strohle.

Hillsdale finishes the season at 9-10 overall and 4-4 in G-MAC play. If there's a silver lining for the Chargers, it's that Hillsdale had no seniors on this season's squad and also struggled with injuries throughout the campaign. With the entire squad set to return and potentially better injury luck in 2026-27, Hillsdale could be a team on the rise in a big way next season if it can have a strong offseason.
