The Hillsdale College women's track and field team completed a busy final week that included meets across the nation as the Chargers made their last bid to qualify for the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships at the end of May.
Hillsdale athletes competed in five meets over the course of the week, starting with their own home Last Chance meet on Wednesday.
The Chargers won four events at their home meet, led by freshman
Devan Foster, who took first in the javelin with a throw of 40.22 meters, and
Amelia Lutz, who won the shot put with a throw of 15.65 meters.
Tara Townsend won the pole vault as well for the Chargers with a clearance of 3.83 meters, and Hillsdale's 4x100m relay team of
Francesca Federici,
Lucy Minning,
Anna Lamoreaux and
Anna Roessner won in 46.42.
Lutz also took fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 55.09 meters, while
Erika Mogelvang placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 10.95 meters and fifth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.59 meters.
Baelyn Zitzmann took fourth in the high jump clearing 1.59 meters as well, while
Adella Schmoll placed fifth in the long jump with a distance of 5.43 meters. On the track,
Ameera Wilson was second in the 800m run in 2:21.85.
Completing competition at home, Hillsdale hit the road. Several athletes went to Mount Olive for their final qualifier on Saturday.
Anna Roessner tied her season best in the 100m dash with an 11.60 in the prelims, while
Lucy Minning finished runner-up in the final with a time of 11.92 and Roessner third in 11.99. Minning also took fifth in the 200m dash (24.16) and Roessner sixth (24.27).
Sarah Chappelle also tied her personal best in the 100m hurdles with a 14.07 in the prelims, ultimately placing third in 14.44.
Finishing up the regular season for the Chargers, Hillsdale's
Devan Foster competed at the GVSU Last Chance meet on Sunday, winning the javelin with a throw of 42.63 meters.
Hillsdale now awaits Tuesday's reveal of the field for the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships, hosted this year by Emporia State and set to start on May 21. All qualifying athletes will compete for national titles and All-American honors at the three-day championship.
