The Hillsdale College men's cross country team sent a partial squad to Tiffin on Friday night, getting advance scouting on the course for the upcoming G-MAC Championship meet while also running a solid race.
Six of Hillsdale's top seven runners all ran personal bests for the 8K as the Chargers took sixth in a field of 10 teams with 149 points.
The top finisher was freshman
Grant Skorupan, who made his case to be part of the Chargers' top seven by cutting nearly a minute and a half off his time from his first race two weeks ago, leading Hillsdale with a 22nd place finish in 25:38.1.
Zach Self took 34th in 26:06.6, while freshman
Oliver Garber also dropped time from his first race to place 38th in 26:11.8. Senior
Noah Gazmin ran a personal best for the 8K in 26:12.0 to finish right behind Garber in 39th, freshman
Brendan O'Donohue also PRed in 45th place and 26:39.7 to round out the scorers, and
Daniel Johnson took 47th in a personal best time of 26:46.8 as well.
Johnathan Dys ran a collegiate best of over a minute to place 50th for Hillsdale as well in 26:58.7.
Hillsdale will look to build on this race with a big meet next Friday on tap, as the Chargers will bring their full squad to the Joe Piane Memorial Invite hosted by the University of Notre Dame in South Bend. The race always attracts a top field from across the midwest and should be a great test for the Chargers as October begins.
