Throughout the season, the top-flight players have played big roles in the matches the Hillsdale College tennis team has won. Friday afternoon, it was the other end of the lineup that provided the difference in a Charger victory.
Hillsdale went 6-0 in singles flights three through six, and at No. 2 and 3 doubles to earn a 6-3 win over Michigan Tech University in Houghton. This was the first of a three-match road trip through the northern part of the state.
Sophomore Lindsay Peirce (pictured) had a clutch win for the team at No. 4 singles and set the tone for players in that area of Hillsdale's lineup. She came back impressively from a 7-6 loss in the second set to cruise to a 6-1 win in her three-set victory.
Freshman Dana Grace Buck had one of her best singles efforts of her young career, rolling to a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.
Freshman Jada Bissett (5 singles) and sophomore Rachel Blaauw (6 singles) were also victorious in their matches.
Peirce and Bissett teamed up for an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles, while Buck and Blaauw won by an identical score at No. 3 doubles.
