After a tough start to the 2012 season, the Charger women's tennis team got on a winning streak and never looked back. Based on Saturday's result, the team could be headed for another such streak.
The team won for the second day in a row, easily defeating GLIAC rival Ashland 7-2 Saturday afternoon to improve its record to 2-4 overall. The Chargers wrap up the three-match homestand this weekend to face Lake Erie College Sunday at 1 p.m.
Hillsdale won this match thanks to a couple of close wins in some flights, and some one-sided affairs in other flights.
In singles competition, sophomore Sydney Delp blazed her way to a straight sets win, 6-1, 6-4 at no. 2 singles. Freshman Dana Grace Buck notched a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles, while sophomore Lindsay Peirce didn't need much time to pick up a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles. Sophomore Rachael Blaauw wrapped up the team's fourth win in singles matches with a 6-3, 6-4 win in the No. 6 flight.
Sydney and Morgan Delp had no trouble at No. 1 singles with an 8-1 rout. The win was nice for Morgan Delp, who suffered a frustrating three-set loss at No. 1 singles, losing the third-set tiebreaker by a 10-8 score.
Hillsdale's other two doubles pairs, Jada Bissett and Peirce, and Buck and Blaauw, both won their matches by margins of 8-6 and 9-8 (5) respectively.
