The Hillsdale College women's basketball team took a quick break early in its season to play an exhibition game against Division I Eastern Michigan University Tuesday night.
The Chargers were competitive throughout, but lost to the Eagles 94-77 in Ypsilanti. Hillsdale resumes regular season play at St. Joseph's College over Thanksgiving Weekend.
Through one quarter the teams were tied at 14 apeice, but a 19-3 EMU run gave it a big lead in the second quarter. The second half was played at a frantic pace, as Eastern's press and Hillsdale's high and constant rate of speed resulted in 104 total points being scored over the game's final 20 minutes.
Hillsdale shot just 27 percent from the floor in the first half, but increased that to 50 (16-for-32) in the second half. The Chargers outrebounded the Eagles 49-47 in the game, led by 13 from sophomore center Allie Dittmer.
Senior Kelsey Cromer heated up as the game went along, finishing with a team-high 20 points, going 7-for-8 from the free throw line while draining three 3-point baskets.
Freshman guard Allie Dewire looked more comfortable and confident, taking a team-high 15 shots while finishing with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals in 23 minutes in the game.
Junior guard Becca Scherting also scored 17, going 6-for-11 from the floor while playing a team-high 25 minutes.
