More reinforcements are coming for the Hillsdale College women's basketball team as the Chargers look for a fifth-straight winning season and to contend once again for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference crown in 2026-27.
Hillsdale signed two more newcomers in the month of May, adding Jasmine Becotte, a 5-foot-9 sophomore guard from Pelham, New Hampshire who is transferring in from St. Michael's College in Vermont, and incoming freshman Kate Scharf, a 5-foot-7 guard from Spearfish High School in Spearfish, South Dakota.
Becotte and Scharf join
earlier signees Delaney Larson, Ella Martin and Maya Sonday to bring Hillsdale's class of newcomers to five for the fall.
Becotte comes to Hillsdale from NCAA DII St. Michael's, where she was a part of the rotation as a freshman, playing in 23 of 29 games for the Purple Knights while helping St. Michael's qualify for the NCAA DII East Regional. The sophomore scored for the Purple Knights in St. Michael's regional quarterfinal loss to Southern Connecticut State, and had a solid campaign, averaging 5 points and 4 rebounds in roughly 11 minutes per game and finishing with 15 steals and 12 assists as well.
That first collegiate season built off a strong prep career, first at Pelham High School and then Lawrence Academy in Massachusetts. Becotte was a 1,000 point scorer and was the New Hampshire Basketball Coaches Organization Division II Player of the Year at Pelham in 2023, and a All-New England Prep School Athletic Council Class B honree at Lawrence Academy in 2025. A two-sport athlete who also played volleyball in high school, Becotte was a strong student who was a member of both the National Honor Society and the Math Honor Society and graduated with honors.
Scharf, meanwhile, is another versatile guard prospect who excelled for Spearfish, helping her high school team make back-to-back SDHSAA Class AA State Tournament appearances for the first time in a decade, with a seventh-place finish in 2024 and a sixth-place finish in 2025. A sharpshooter who set her program's single-game 3-point record and finished second all-time in Spearfish history in both single-season and career 3-pointers, Scharf made the All-Black Hills Conference team three consecutive seasons, while also earning Best of the West third-team honors and All-State honorable mention honors as a senior in 2026. She also played in the South Dakota All-Class Shootout All-Star game.
A two-sport athlete who also excelled in soccer, winning six varsity letters, twice leading Spearfish in scoring and earning two All-Black Hills Conferece and one All-State second team honor, Scharf also excelled on the AAU circuit with North Tartan EYCL, Mountain West Premier, and SD Network. An excellent student, Scharf also served as secretary of the Spearfish Chapter of the National Honor Society, won the South Dakota state championship in the national We The People competition, and is on track to graduate high school with honors this spring.
