For the first time since the program was reinstituted in 2011, the Hillsdale College women's tennis team is undefeated after two matches in conference play.
The Chargers finished off an outstanding start to its fall 2015 season with a 7-2 win over Ashland University Sunday afternoon on the home courts. Hillsdale, 2-0 overall and in the GLIAC, will stay at home next weekend, hosting Tiffin Saturday morning and Findlay Sunday afternoon.
The top flights in singles and oubles breezed to big wins to lead the way for Hillsdale. Freshman Halle Hyman won in straight sets for the second day in a row, taking home a 6-3, 6-4 victory. Hyman and fellow freshman Julia Formentin were 8-5 winners at No. 2 doubles as well.
Seniors Sydney Delp and Lindsay Peirce rolled to an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles, pushing their record to 2-0 on the season.
Sisters Jada and Madeline Bissett teamed up for the first time on the collegiate level, and were 9-8 (4) winners in a dramatic matchup at No. 3 doubles.
Madeline Bissett, a freshman, won her collegiate singles debut in decisive fashion, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Formetin won for the second time in two singles matches, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 6 singles. Peirce was on her way to victory at No. 3 singles, winning the first set 6-2 before clinching the win 4-1 when her opponent retired in the second set.
