The final home match of the fall season ended unhappily for the Hillsdale College women's tennis team.
The Chargers lost a close match to Saginaw Valley State University 6-3 in a GLIAC contest played inside the Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center. The loss makes Hillsdale 4-6 headed into Wednesday's regular season finale at Wayne State.
The Cardinals pulled out several tiebreaker wins in singles play to help swing the match into their favor. Hillsdale's lone winner in the singles flight was by freshman Kamryn Matthews, who has had a sensational season. She won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
The Chargers won two of the three doubles matches on the day, starting with the No. 1 pairing of sophomore Halle Hyman and freshman Katie Bell, who were 8-5 winners. Senior Dana Grace Buck, playing at home for the final time in her career, won her 45th career match in doubles, teaming up with sophomore Madeline Bissett for an 8-5 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Buck, along with senior teammate and co-captain Jada Bissett (pictured) were honored for their careers in a pre-match ceremony.
