Lakers Take 2 From Chargers

The Hillsdale College softball team will enter the 2016 GLIAC Tournament as the No. 3 seed after taking two losses to Grand Valley State University Sunday in Allendale.

The Lakers won the games by scores of 7-1 and 3-0, giving Hillsdale an overall record of 24-10 and 19-7 in the GLIAC.

GVSU executed at a very high level throughout both games, pitching extremely well, holding the Chargers to seven hits combined in the two games, six of them coming in the opener.

Hillsdale's lone run was scored by junior Bekah Kastning, who singled and later came home on a double by freshman Amanda Marra. Sophomore Brittany Mahan also had a double in game one, while Kelsey Gockman, Haley Lawrence and Ainsley Ellison each picked up hits.

Gockman picked up the team's lone hit in the second game.

Hillsdale will face Saginaw Valley State in the opening round of the GLIAC Tournament on Friday in Findlay. Times have yet to be announced.

UP NEXT: Hillsdale closes out the regular season with a road doubleheader against Lourdes Tuesday at 5:00 in Toledo.
