Chargers Back in the Win Column

Box Score

The Hillsdale College women's tennis team impressively bounced back from its first loss of the season to post a 6-3 victory over the University of Findlay in Ohio Sunday afternoon.

The Chargers are now 3-1 overall and in the GLIAC.

Highlighting the win was another great performance from freshman Kamryn Matthews, who posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at N. 6 singles. She not only didn't lose a game, she won her second set without surrendering a single point. That's what's known in tennis as a "Golden Set," an extremely rare achievement in the sport, regardless of level of play.

Matthews, who finished her high school career as a state champion, is now 4-0 as a Hillsdale Charger singles player. Matthews is also undefeated in doubles, having teamed up with senior Jada Bissett for an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles.

Fellow freshman Katie Bell also maintained her perfect record to start her career in the win over the Oilers. She was a 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 winner at No. 2 singles, and was joined by senior Dana Grace Buck in an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles.

Sophomore Corinne Prost was a 7-5, 6-2 winner at No. 3 singles, and sophomore Madeline Bissett earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles.
