Chargers, Dragons Split GLIAC Softball Twinbill

Box Score 1

Game 1 box score: Hillsdale 4, Tiffin 2

Game 2 box score: Tiffin 3, Hillsdale 2

If there's such a thing as a frustrating split, the Hillsdale College softball team experienced that Monday afternoon.

The Chargers stayed even in the GLIAC at 2-2 by splitting with Tiffin University, winning game one 4-2 and losing game two 3-2. Hillsdale is 12-15 overall on the season.

The Chargers played excellent defense all day and got a pair of tough pitching performances from freshman Dana Weidinger. But Hillsdale struggled to cash in on opportunities with runners on base, particularly in game two when it stranded six runners.

Weidinger allowed just three earned runs in 13 innings pitched on the day.

In the opener, Hillsdale fell behind 2-0 but came back with a three-run third inning to take the lead for good. After Sydney San Juan reached on a leadoff error, Bekah Kastning and Kelsey Gockman hit back-to-back doubles. Senior Cassie Asselta followed up with an RBI single, providing the game-winning run.

In the second game, Kastning went 3-for-4 with a triple, her 199th career hit. Gockman and Sam Catron each had a hit and a run batted in and Victoria Addis was 2-for-3 in the loss.
