Chargers Take Over First Place in G-MAC After 8-1 Win Over Walsh

First place in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference women's tennis standings is now solely possessed by Hillsdale College.

In a showdown of unbeaten teams in conference play, the Chargers made an impressive statement in an 8-1 victory over Walsh University at the Margot V. Biermann Center. Hillsdlae vaults a game ahead of Walsh with a 6-0 G-MAC record and 11-4 overall. The Cavaliers came into the match unbeaten in G-MAC play, but finishes out its regular season with a 6-1 conference record.

Hillsdale can clinch the outright 2018 regular season title with a win over Findlay at home Sunday.

Although Hillsdale's run of 9-0 wins came to an end, the team still put together a terrific match against an opponent that had been playing very well coming into this matchup. 

Halle Hyman has been playing the best, most confident tennis of her collegiate career, and was in top form throughout Saturday's match. She won at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-0 and teamed up with Hannah Cimpeanu for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.

Cimpeanu has been similarly dominant, and was a 6-2, 6-1 victor at No. 2 singles.

Sophomore Katie Bell won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, while sophomore Kamryn Matthews kept up her winning streak with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles. Junior Madeline Bissett turned in another one-sided win, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.

Matthews and Bissett were 8-2 winners at No. 3 doubles, while Bell and regular partner Corinne prost took home an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles.
