G-MAC Regular Season Champs!

Box Score

One championship down. One out there waiting to be won.

The Hillsdale College women's tennis team finished off a perfect conference season Sunday with an 8-1 win over the University of Findlay. The Chargers are 2018 Great Midwest Athletic Conference regular season champions and will enter next week's conference tournament as the #1 seed.

This is Hillsdale's first regular season conference championship since 1983 and second in school history. The Chargers got there with a dominating regular season. Every match against an opponent has nine individual matches, or 63 total G-MAC matches. In those 63 individual matches, Hillsdale - a team with no seniors - was 61-2.

Sunday's regular season finale didn't come without some tests provided by the Oilers. Findlay was victorious at No. 1 doubles, but the Chargers took the rest, highlighted by 8-1 victories by both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Katie Bell and Corinne Prost won at No. 2 doubles while Kamryn Matthews and Madeline Bissett won their No. 3 doubles match.

Bissett and Matthews both pitched 6-0, 6-0 shutouts in their singles matches in the No. 6 and 5 flights. Double bagels, in tennis terms.

Junior Halle Hyman rallied back impressively after losing the first set to post a 2-6, 6-1, 10-4 win at No. 1 singles, Freshman Hannah Cimpeanu was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 2 singles, and Bell cruised to a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles. Prost finished off the singles flight sweep for Hillsdale with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
