Hillsdale Blanks Davenport in Season Opener

Box Score

It was a Super Sunday for the Charger women's tennis team.

Playing its 2019 spring season opener, Hillsdale shut out regional foe Davenport University 7-0 at the Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center, climbing to 1-0 on the season.

The Chargers won all their matches in decisive fashion in a match that included two forfeit wins because the Panthers had five players in the lineup, and did not field anyone at No. 3 doubles or No. 6 singles.

Both doubles matches ended in 6-4 Charger wins, with the No. 1 doubles team of Sarah Hackman and Hannah Cimpeanu and No. 2 doubles team of Katie Bell and Corinne Prost emerging victorious.

Cimpeanu opened the season in the No. 1 singles slot for Hillsdale and played well in earning a 6-1, 6-1 win. Hackman made her dual match collegiate debut in the No. 2 singles slot and was impressive with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

Bell fought hard and came away with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles, while defending conference player of the year Halle Hyman cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles. Junior Kamryn Matthews got off to a strong start to her third season with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles.
