Charger women's tennis team rolls past Kentucky Wesleyan, 7-0, to open G-MAC play

The Hillsdale College women's tennis team dropped just four games across nine matches to snap a three-match losing streak and open Great Midwest Athletic Conference play win a win on Saturday.

The Chargers rolled past host Kentucky Wesleyan for a 7-0 victory to improve to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the G-MAC.

Playing at No. 1 doubles together for the first time in a match, Hillsdale's pairing of Hannah Cimpeanu and Canela Luna won 6-0 over the Panthers, and the No. 2 doubles pairing of Ellie Chawner and Helana Formentin (6-0) and the No. 3 doubles pairing of Sophia Spinazze and Tatum Matthews (6-2) also won handily to secure the doubles point for Hillsdale.

In singles play, five of the Chargers' six players won 6-0, 6-0 matches, led by Cimpeanu at No. 1 singles and Luna at No. 2 singles.

Chawner at No. 3 singles, Spinazze at No. 4 singles and Helana Formentin at No. 5 singles all had near-flawless victories as well, while Tatum Matthews came very close in a strong performance at No. 6 singles, winning 6-2, 6-0 as well for the Chargers.

Hillsdale, the two-time defending G-MAC champions, will look to continue its quest for a third consecutive conference crown next Saturday, April 3 at Cedarville, beginning at 11 a.m.
