The Hillsdale College women's cross country team put together a dominant performance at the Jayhawk Collegiate Invitational on Saturday in Muskegon, rolling to the team title with 22 points.
Competing against some of the state's top Junior Colleges and NCAA DIII teams, as well as DII Ferris State, the Chargers put their entire scoring five in the top 11 and swept the podium, going 1-2-3 at the front to easily outdistance runner-up Hope.
Hillsdale's top three runners all ran personal bests for the 5K distance, led by freshman
Evyn Humphrey, who turned in a 17:23.26 for her second race victory of the season. Fellow freshman
Allison Kuzma was close behind in 17:30.68, and
Savannah Fraley finished third in 18:03.75.
The Chargers also got strong pack running from sophomores
Eleanor Clark and
Anna Stirton, who also ran big collegiate bests. Clark finished close behind the front pack in ninth with a personal best time of 18:34.02 and Stirton took 11th in 18:40.40 as well to give Hillsdale an easy team victory.
Senior
Kayla Loescher placed 16th in 18:51.41 as well for Hillsdale, and junior
Anna Roberts placed 22nd in 19:04.78.
The Chargers take the next weekend off as Hillsdale turns its focus to the G-MAC Championships, which will be hosted in Hillsdale on Oct. 26. The women will race at 11:30 a.m. looking to better last season's fourth place finish in the conference.
