A young Hillsdale College women's cross country squad ended a promising season with a 15th place team finish at the NCAA DII Midwest Regional on Saturday in the Chicagoland Area.
Running without No.1 runner and 2024 G-MAC Champion
Evyn Humphrey, the Chargers still put together a solid performance. Freshman
Allison Kuzma ran a strong race for her first collegiate regional appearance, taking 26th in 22:03.98 to finish just one spot shy of All-Region honors. Just two freshmen ran a faster time than Kuzma for the 6k course, which is an encouraging sign for the future.
Sophomore
Savannah Fraley placed 39th for the Chargers in 22:26.57, bettering her finish from a year ago, and fellow sophomore
Eleanor Clark placed 83rd in 23:24.09 as well for Hillsdale, also an improvement on her 2023 race.
Anna Stirton, also a sophomore, placed 103rd in 23:43.11 for Hillsdale and senior
Kayla Loescher took 114th in 23:49.22 as well to round out Hillsdale's scoring finishers, while sisters Megan and
Anna Roberts placed 122nd (24:01.01) and 126th (24:06.30) as well for the Chargers.
With just one runner in their top seven at Saturday's regional set to graduate and Humphrey slated to return for her sophomore year as well, the future is extremely bright for the Chargers, who placed third as a team at the G-MAC Championships two weeks ago. Hillsdale's runners now turn their focus to the indoor track and field season, where competition will begin in the first week of December.
