Box Score The Hillsdale College women's tennis team tested itself against tough competition to open the 2024-25 season, welcoming three teams to Hillsdale for its annual Summer Invitational.
Facing off against players from Findlay and Walsh teams that are among regular G-MAC title contenders, as well as perennial GLIAC title contender and Midwest Regional contender Wayne State, the Chargers faced tough matches every time they took the court this weekend, but were able to find some successes.
Defending G-MAC Freshman of the Year
Ane Dannhauser led the way for Hillsdale with a strong performance. The sophomore won two of three singles matches to claim the Flight A singles consolation bracket title, beating Walsh's Lina Starke 6-3, 4-6 and 10-4 in a thrilling match before taking down the Cavaliers' Taira Abildayeva 6-3, 7-5 in the final.
Dannhauser also teamed with freshman
Briana Rees for a consolation title in the A doubles bracket, as Hillsdale's team rallied from an opening loss to beat Walsh's team of Chmir and Ivashchuk 6-0 and then take down the Cavaliers' Stark and Abildayeva 6-1 in the final match.
Despite the season having just begun, Hillsdale has a short turnaround to the 2024 ITA Midwest Regional hosted by Davenport in Grand Rapids, Michigan, which begins next Saturday. The three-day event brings together all of the top NCAA Division II singles players and doubles teams from across the Midwest Region, making it the premier fall showcase at the NCAA DII level in the Midwest and also a great measuring stick for where the Chargers stand as they prepare for championship season in the spring.
