The Hillsdale College women's swimming and diving team bounced back from a tough previous weekend at home with a solid performance on Saturday, beating host Albion 111-100.
With the G-MAC/MEC Conference meet a month away, Hillsdale used the dual as an opportunity to try its swimmers out in different events and get more data as it prepares to set its lineup for championship season.Â
Hillsdale racked up five event wins against the Britons, and were aided heavily by two 1-2-3 finishes. Senior
Megan Clifford claimed first in the 200 freestyle in 1:58.94, ahead of junior
Jamie Parsons in second in 2:05.98 and freshman
Kathryn Vieceli in third in 2:08.86.
The Chargers also swept the podium in the 100 butterfly, with
Ella Malone taking first in 1:02.66 and beating out runner-up senior
Joanna Burnham (1:02.77) and third-place senior
Elise Mason (1:03.14) in a close race.
Along with her runner-up finish in the 100 fly, Burnham also brought home an event victory in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.41. Parsons, meanwhile, also added an event win to her runner-up finish in the 500 freestyle in 5:31.87, just ahead of teammate
Inez McNichols in 5:33.64.
Hillsdale also got a win in the 200 freestyle relay, as the team of Vieceli,
Matilyn Wilhelmsen, Mason and
Ella Schafer took first in 1:45.03. Wilhelmsen also finished runner-up in the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.49, Clifford took runner-up in the 100 freestyle in 54.18 for Hillsdale, and Mason placed second in the 200 individual medley in 2:15.10.
The Chargers are now 9-4 in dual meets on the season and will swim in one more double-dual ahead of the G-MAC/MEC Championships, traveling to East Kentwood, Michigan to battle host Davenport University and Aquinas next Saturday.
