Men's Preview
Hillsdale faces a tough fight to hold on to the G-MAC team crown it captured in a stirring race on its own home course in 2024, as a strong field takes aim at the crown. The favorite entering the weekend is Walsh, who is looking to get back to the top of the podium after the Chargers snapped a five-year streak of titles last season. With front-runners and a strong pack, the Cavaliers will be tough to beat, but Walsh has several competitors nipping at their heels and looking to grab the title for themselves. Ashland is on a meteoric rise after finishing just eighth in the league last year, with a young squad that on paper can threaten Walsh, while Tiffin has some of the top individuals in the race leading a strong pack as well. The Chargers also lurk as another team close in the rankings to Walsh and one that could surprise again with a stellar day.
Individually,
Gabriel Phillips of Hillsdale has the second fastest time in the conference in an 8K to date and will be a serious contender to win the race. The favorite entering Saturday's competition is senior grad transfer Ramon Rodriguez of Tiffin, whose 23:44.1 is the top 8K time in the G-MAC to date. Other big names to watch are Nate Slater and Wes Taylor of Ashland, Louis Ginane of Tiffin, Xavier Foehl and Theo Papas of Walsh, Joey Carroll of Cedarville and Asher Long of Findlay.
Women's Preview
The G-MAC race for the women is shaping up to be a two-team battle behind defending champion Walsh and the team they unseated after a run of three titles last year, Cedarville. The Yellow Jackets come in as the favorites on paper, second in the Midwest Region to only national power Grand Valley State and with an excellent pack that will be tough to break up. Walsh does have a sensational top runner in Claire Rethman, who's run multiple blazing fast 6K races so far this year, and has a strong enough squad behind her to threaten an upset of the Yellow Jackets. Hillsdale will have a tough time breaking into the top two but will be in a position to battle for a repeat of their third place finish last year with Findlay and Malone.
In the individual race, it feels like a showdown is looming for Hillsdale sophomore
Allison Kuzma, who was the G-MAC runner-up last season and off to a great start in 2025, and Rethman, who's been under 21 minutes in 6K races multiple times so far this season. Looking to break up that showdown and seize the crown for themselves are Cedarville's top runners, Emily Walsh, Corinne Lynch and Aubrey Harrington, who are all fast enough to challenge for the title, as well as Rethman's Cavaliers teammates Bella Graham and Alyssa Stoner, who were both top 10 finishers in the G-MAC Championships last year. Findlay's Lauren Sattler and Sarah Reinhart also loom as potential dark horses if they can put together a big time drop on Saturday.
