After finishing runner-up at the G-MAC Championships last year, sophomore
Allison Kuzma wasn't going to be denied in 2025.
The All-American distance runner for Hillsdale College added another major accomplishment to her stellar career on Saturday at the 2025 G-MAC Championships, hosted by Northwood at the Finsher Family Trails in Midland, Michigan. Kuzma took first in 20:29.1, a new personal best in the 6K to claim her first G-MAC cross country crown and give Hillsdale's women's program its third individual cross country champion in the past three seasons.Â
From very early in the competition, it was clear that it would be a three-woman race as Kuzma, Walsh's Claire Rethman and Cedarville's Emily Walsh ran stride for stride with each other for the first two and a half miles. On the home stretch, however, Kuzma proved to have more in the tank than her competition, pulling away with a strong kick to beat Rethman by six seconds and Walsh by 18 seconds to claim the title. The win adds to Kuzma's G-MAC championships in the 5K in indoor track and field and the 10K in outdoor track and field last season, and identify her as a top contender for the Midwest Regional title two weekends from now in Kenosha, and to earn All-American honors in cross country at the NCAA DII National Championships on Nov. 22.
As a team, the Chargers finished fourth, behind champion Cedarville and runner-up Walsh. Along with Kuzma, junior
Eleanor Clark also earned first-team All-G-MAC honors, taking ninth in 21:57.5, a new personal best and the first time Clark has broken 22 minutes in a 6K in her career.
Sophomore
Victoria Stonebraker placed 26th for the Chargers in a new personal best time of 22:41.9, and freshman
Grace Tykocki took 39th in a personal best time of 23:09.6. Junior
Savannah Fraley rounded out Hillsdale's scoring runners in 40th place in 23:11.1, and freshman
Caroline Roberts took 46th in 23:23.1 and freshman
Mavis Banks finished 63rd in 24:02.9 as well for the Chargers.
Hillsdale next heads to Kenosha, Wisconsin for the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship on November 8. The top three teams and top two individuals not on a qualifying team will automatically advance to the NCAA DII Championships, also scheduled to be held in Kenosha on Nov. 22, with at-large spots also to be awarded as well.
