Box Score The Hillsdale College women's tennis team hit the road for the first time this spring, but didn't miss a beat in a solid 5-2 victory over host Purdue Northwest on Saturday.
The Chargers set the tone early with a strong doubles performance, taking all three matches despite tough opposition. Hillsdale's No. 1 doubles team of
Ane Dannhauser and
Courtney Rittel and its No. 3 doubles team of
Megan Hackman and
Isabella Spinazze each won 6-4 matches, while the Chargers' No. 2 doubles team of
Libby McGivern and
Briana Rees dominated a tiebreak 7-2 to take a 7-6 victory and complete the sweep.
That momentum carried into singles play, as Hillsdale quickly clinched the match and ultimately won four of the six singles matches. Dannhauser dominated the first set of her No. 1 singles match against the Pride's Tamiya Lintz in a 6-0, 6-4 victory, and McGivern also picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles over Haizea Ricaldi Lopez.Â
Rees clinched the match for the Chargers at No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Purdue Northwest's Romance Debrielle, and fellow freshman
Julia Zlateva took down the Pride's Salma Raslan in an impressive 6-1, 6-4 performance.
Hillsdale is now 4-2 on the season and can sweep its road trip and pick up another regional victory on Sunday with a noon match against host Illinois-Springfield.
