Chargers fall to nation's top NAIA team, Keiser, in 7-0 road defeat

Box Score The Hillsdale College women's tennis team faced a difficult challenge on Tuesday afternoon to kick off a Spring Break trip to Florida, taking on the top-ranked team in NAIA, Keiser University, in a road match.

Despite a tough fight, the nation's best NAIA team proved to be too much for Hillsdale to overcome in a 7-0 loss.

The Chargers were defeated in all nine matches, but lost only two 6-0 sets as Hillsdale competed as best it could with the Seahawks. Two veteran stalwarts for the Chargers put up the best fight at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, as Ane Dannhauser fell to the NAIA's top-ranked singles player, Violet Apisah, in a 6-4, 6-3 match and senior Libby McGivern had a hard-fought match against the NAIA's fifth-ranked player, Cato Tangkau, in a 6-2, 7-5 defeat.

While the Chargers lost today, the experience of playing a team that's at worst the equivalent of a top-15 caliber NCAA DII opponent will serve Hillsdale well against less daunting competition later in the season.

Hillsdale is now 5-5 overall will play again tomorrow against another one of the nation's best -- 15th-ranked Nova Southeastern, who's always a national power at the NCAA DII level, as the Chargers' swing through Florida continues.
