Chargers fall to Northwestern Ohio, 5-2, in final match before Spring Break

Box Score The Hillsdale College women's tennis team came up short on Saturday in its final match before its annual Spring Break trip to Florida, falling to Northwestern Ohio 5-2 at home.

The Chargers fell behind early when the Racers took the doubles point by a narrow margin, despite a 7-5 victory by senior Libby McGivern and freshman Brianna Rees at No. 2 doubles.

That point allowed UNOH to clinch the match with just three singles wins, and the Racers got four to take the victory. Hillsdale sophomore Ane Dannhauser picked up one victory for the Chargers with a dominant 6-3, 6-2 win over UNOH's Munisa Ashurbekova at No. 1 singles, and freshman Julia Zlateva also won by injury retirement at No. 5 singles when her opponent bowed out with each player having won a set apiece after the second set.

The Chargers are now 5-4 overall and leave tomorrow for Florida, where Hillsdale will play a daunting Spring Break schedule that includes a match against the second-ranked team in NCAA DII, Nova Southeastern, on Wednesday, and starts with a match against the top-ranked NAIA team in the country, Keiser, on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in West Palm Beach, Florida.
